Granted, Apple did incorporate the water resistance feature in some of their
recent iPhone models, but that doesn’t mean they’re
100% waterproof. To be fair, water resistance does imply that your iPhone could withstand some degree of water, but make no mistake - it’s far from being completely impervious to water damage.
That’s where the IP ratings come in:- IP67 and IP68. Older iPhone models (iPhone 7 and onward) have at least an IP67 rating. Newer ones, such as iPhone XS, 11, 12, and so on, already come geared up with an IP68 rating. IP67 implies that your device can be submerged in up to one meter of water and survive for 30 minutes. On the other hand, IP68 means that your iPhone can be submerged up to two meters underwater, with the same survival rate.
- Short-Term Exposure. Despite these ratings, it’s important to keep in mind that Apple specified on numerous occasions that their iPhone devices are designed to resist accidental spills, splashes, and brief immersions, generally speaking. Extended water exposure isn’t the best idea, but if you drop the device in a pool or maybe spill coffee on it, it shouldn’t be much of a problem.
